JOB DESCRIPTION

The Cook prepares food that meets current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations by following established policies and procedures. He or she ensures that safe and high quality food service is provided at all times.

The ideal candidate for this position has a high school diploma or GED, secondary education in Culinary or Healthcare field preferred, at least one year cooking experience, cooking experience of therapeutic and specialized diets a plus but we will provide on the job training, a current Food Handler's permit. He or she must be committed to the residents, reliable to his or her co-workers, and be a self-motivated, organized, and detailed individual.

Hours:

Sun & Mon 5am-1:30pm, Tues-Thurs 11am-7:30pm w/ alternating Thursdays off during slow times




 

     


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares dinner entrees, starches, vegetables following established recipes for all meal services and special events
  • Prepares meals following established recipes ensuring they meet the dietary requirements of the residents and maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and food safety
  • Be shift lead to production cooks for dinner shift
  • Cleans work areas and all equipment used in food preparation
  • Follows safety and sanitation rules and practices
  • Completes any reports or logs
  • Familiarizes self with special diets and restrictions and preparation and service of same
  • Follows all sanitary work practices in accordance with state, federal, and local Health Codes
  • May help with special functions or events and training new employees
  • On occasion, prepares and sets up special catering events as directed
  • Reports and Communicates changes to supervisior
  • Reports to work on time and in proper uniform including hair restraints
  • Works closely with the Cook and Nurses on the same shift to ensure quality food and service is provided
  • Works with meat slicer, sharp knives, hot equipment, blenders, choppers, deep fryers, broilers, griddles, grills, carts, serving utensils, and steam tables
QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Secondary education in Culinary or Healthcare field required
  • Current Food Handler’s permit
  • Cooking experience of therapeutic and specialized diets a plus but we will provide on the job training
  • One year cooking experience
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to stand and walk constantly and sit, reach, bend/stoop, push/pull, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Willing and able to work with the hazards of sharp edges, knives, glass, hot equipment, and slippery floors
  • Accuracy - Able to perform work accurately and thoroughly
  • A desire to collaborate with others; striving to create a greater sense of community
